Reporting on Student Progress
You will receive two different types of report from the college:
Target Reports
These are issued twice each year. They aim to give a snap shot of student progress which identifies potential problems and recognises improvement or excellence.
Target reports include:
- Target grades based on your son or daughter’s prior achievement at GCSE. These targets are derived from national data and represent an average performance for a student with your son or daughter’s GCSE average. Students will be encouraged to regard this as a minimum target grade and during their course the grade may be revised upwards to reflect the level of their achievement.
- Attendance figures for each course expressed as a percentage of possible sessions attended.
- An effort grade for each course .
- An achievement grade for each course based on performance in a recent assignment or test.
Please contact your Faculty Director in the first instance if there appears to be an inaccuracy in your son or daughter’s report.
Progress Reports
The college produces full written reports for parents once during the year for one year and second year students and twice for first year students. Reports are written by staff as the result of one to one meetings with students and include targets for improvement. Similarly, twice a term students will have one-to-one meetings with their tutor to review their overall progress. Students will be encouraged to recognise their own strengths and weaknesses and agree targets for improvement. A written record of these meetings is produced and a copy given to the student to be included in their progress file. The tutor will provide a written overview of the student’s progress as part of the progress report.
The progress report should include:
- At least one report for each full GCSE or A level.
- At least one report for each First Diploma, National Diploma, New Diploma or NVQ course.
- A programme review completed by the student and tutor.
Progress reports for short courses are not always completed. Should you request a formal report on these additional studies, please ask the tutor who will arrange for one to be sent.
Any queries arising from the reports should be addressed to the appropriate Faculty Director in the first instance.
