Title and Level:  City and Guilds Level 2 (NVQ) Diploma in Hairdressing

Introduction
This qualification requires you to demonstrate skills and knowledge that are required in the workplace. Assessments will be required to attest to occupational competence and provide an indicator of your readiness to seek employment in the hairdressing industry.

Entry Requirements

A proven interest in the industry, either prior qualifications or voluntary work with a Salon or mobile Hairdresser.

GCSE English Language and Mathematics at Grade C or above, or an appropriate alternative qualification at the same level.

Adults without this entry requirement may be offered a Quick Scan to assess ability to complete the written and numerical components of the course.  The results may lead to recommendations for basic skills tuition in preparation for this Hairdressing course.

Duration 
A two year part-time course, requiring attendance at College for one day or two evenings a week.  Attendance at all sessions are essential, so that the theoretical and practical components can be experienced and sufficient assessment opportunities provided.

During the two years you will be expected to provide clients for practice and assessment purposes.

Careers prospects/Progression
This qualification will provide you with a theoretical knowledge and understanding of the skills and techniques required in the Hairdressing industry.  You will have the opportunity to enhance your customer service skills whilst learning in the Hair Salon, which is open to the staff and learners of the College and the wider community.  A selection of products and services required in this service industry will be delivered alongside the development of personal skills, which will enable you to present a professional image in a Salon.

How will I be assessed 
Through a number of practical assessments, which cover all the skills and techniques required within the specifications.  A range of unit tests that can be either paper or ICT based - resits are accommodated as required, following feedback and further instruction, practice and revision.

Advise and Consult with Clients
Style and Finish Hair
Set and Dress Hair
Cut Hair using Basic Techniques
Shampoo, Condition and Treat the Hair and Scalp
Change Hair Colour
Give Customers a Positive Impression of Yourself and Your Organisation

Optional Units - Minimum of one

Fulfil Salon Reception Duties
Develop and Maintain Effectiveness at work
Plait and Twist Hair
Perm and Neutralise Hair

Course expenses 
Course fees:
Evening course: £POA
Daytime: £834.10

The £225.00 kit expense covers the cost of a trolley, two blockheads, brushes, combs, uniform and basic products.  The contents of this package are a basic requirement to complete the course and every learner must have their personal kit at all sessions.

The kit also includes a text book which is designed specifically for the Hairdressing courses.
