What is Moodle?
The word Moodle was originally an acronym for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment, which is mostly useful to programmers and education theorists but not to the average user!
Brief introduction to Moodle:
Moodle is a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). This is a web-based system that stores learning resources e.g. documents, tests, online demonstrations, multimedia activities etc. The VLE allows teachers to manage the organisation of their materials so that students have easy and simple access to their learning. The VLE supports and extends learning beyond the classroom and the school day.
For teachers it can be an additional tool to use as part of a lesson or as an environment for an entire course.
For students it provides an easy way to get all the resources and information they need for a lesson or course. Moodle can be accessed at any time from in college or at home, allowing students to carry on with their education if they cannot attend school, or if they simply want to check on the work they've been set by their teacher.
